Iran’s death toll from the coronavirus, which had dropped to two-digit figures for four consecutive days, on Tuesday returned to nearly 120, raising the alarm over the possibility of another resurgence.
Any move to reduce natural gas supply to petrochemical facilities is a recipe for disaster, as it will deprive the flourishing industry of foreign exchange revenues, the secretary-general of Iran's Association of Petrochemical Industry Corporation (APIC) said.
“Not delivering sufficient natural gas as feedstock to petrochemical factories will reduce the production level, because of which exports will drop sharply,” Ahmad Mahdavi was also quoted as saying by ILNA.
“The National Iranian Gas Company has cut gas delivery to petrochemical companies by 30% and more restrictions will be imposed sooner rather than later unless households reduce consumption in the cold season,” he said.
Since the beginning of the current water year (Sept. 23), the level of water in dams across Iran has declined by 30% year-on-year, the head of Data and Information Department at Iran Water Resources Management Company said.
The average annual inflation gap measured by the Statistical Center of Iran among income deciles stood at 3.2% in the eighth Iranian month (Oct. 23-Nov. 21), indicating a 0.4 percentage point increase compared with the previous month (2.8%).
The inflation gap in “food, beverages and tobacco” group among income deciles decreased by 1.1 percentage points and that of “non-food and services” group reduced by 2.8 percentage point compared with the previous month.

Iranian exports to Turkey accounted for $243 million of the sum, up 159.31% YOY.
A total of 129.03 million tons of goods were loaded and unloaded in Iran’s southern and northern ports during the current fiscal year’s first eight months (March 21-Oct. 22) to register an 11% rise compared with the similar period of last year, latest data released by the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran show.
Non-oil goods accounted for 68.56 million tons and oil products for 60.47 million tons of the total throughput, registering a 13% and 9% increase year-on-year.
The throughput involved 81.5 million tons of loading and 47.53 million tons of unloading, each indicating an 11% growth.
Arrivals of foreign nationals from southern African countries as their departure through all Iranian borders have been banned until further notice, according to the director general of Transit Affairs Bureau with Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization.
“Foreign nationals coming to Iran from destinations other than the southern African countries must have a vaccination card, meaning they must have injected both doses of Covid-19 vaccine, and carry a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours from their arrival,” Javad Hedayati was also quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.
The ban applies to South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.

Mahmoud Alizadeh told state TV an estimated 3.8 million people operating about 6 million payment instruments have never filed tax returns.
“They should file their tax returns or their payment devices will be deactivated,” he warned.

The market cap-weighted TEDPIX shed 6,845.61 points to end trade at 1,357,093. The equal-weighted index of the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) dipped 0.45%. The latter index better reflects the performance of small caps.
Iran's Vice Presidential Office for Science and Technology has announced that 196 innovative projects have been implemented since the new government took office in August.
Speaking to reporters, Vice President Sorena Sattari said the projects are all designed with the assistance of local knowledge-based ecosystem to fill technological gaps in the country's conventional or less-developed sectors.
In addition to the projects underway, Sattari stated that 15 new plans have recently been approved by tech experts and will soon invite investments across the country.
“Contracts between knowledge-based teams and larger industrial units have led to these projects, the foundation for which was laid by weekly startup events, bootcamps, industrial gatherings, webinars and 23 thematic tech events held with the support of the vice presidential office and its affiliate, Iran National Innovation Fund,” he added.
