The government has ratified a law that will see the offering of domestically-produced barley and corn at Iran Mercantile Exchange. The move is intended to help provide farmers with funds through the banking system and bidders’ liquidity, increase transparency in sales, reduce the government’s role in the process and increase competition in the agricultural sector, which would in turn lead to higher quality products. Earlier, the government successfully ran a pilot program by offering corn from Khuzestan Province and barley from Kermanshah Province at IME.
