Iran and France signed a memorandum of understanding on production and genetic modification of trout in Lorestan Province, the head of Iran Fisheries Organization, Hassan Salehi, said.
The agreement comes after a visit by a delegation from French aquaculture firm Aqualande›s visit to the western Iranian province last year, during which the company›s CEO Vincent Petit said it would invest €10 million in setting up a major trout farm there, IRNA reported.
“Upon the establishment of the farm, 250 million trout eggs will be produced annually,” Petit said.
Lorestan ranks first in the production of cold-water fish among Iran’s non-coastal provinces.
