Iran is engaging in the new round of negotiations on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal with the same demands that chiefly involve measures by the United States toward honoring its commitments under the agreement, Iranian lawmakers said.
Fertile lands of Varamin Plain, 40 km southeast of the capital, in the recent past were irrigated with water from Jajroud River, but with the construction of Latyan and Mamlou dams and the lack of water supply, farms in the region shrank but the rise in water withdrawal from groundwater resources led to land subsidence.
Farmers in Varamin annually produce 855,000 tons of agricultural, horticultural and livestock products worth about $167 million, IRNA reported.
After Latyan and Mamlou dams were built and the water rights of each of the agricultural and drinking sectors were determined, it was thought that Varamin’s agriculture would prosper, but the region’s water rights were never fully extended to the agricultural sector.
A new single point mooring (SPM) system has become operational off the coast of Kangan County in southern Bushehr Province to boost gas condensate loading capacity and exports via large vessels, the manager of South Pars Gas Field Phase 19 said.
"Very large crude carriers with a capacity to haul up to 320,000 tons can now anchor at the SPM buoy off the coast of Kangan to load condensates and do not need to berth at Bushehr gas export terminal," Hossein Azimi was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news service Shana.
Gas condensate is a liquid hydrocarbon that forms in association with natural gas. Although it is extracted from gas fields, condensate is typically classified and marketed as a type of sweet, ultra-light crude oil.
The National Iranian Gas Company will likely restrict compressed natural gas delivery to pumps, if domestic gas consumption surpasses 650 million cubic meters per day, the head of the Iran CNG Association said.
“Gas consumption in households has surpassed 550 mcm/d and NIGC has already cut fuel supply to thermal power plants,” Ardeshir Dadras was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.
If the growing trend continues, NIGC will have to curb gas delivery not only to industries but also to CNG stations, he added.
Head of the Plan and Budget Organization said the government’s income from selling debt has been used mainly to reimburse bonds sold in the past.
In a note posted on Twitter, Masoud Mirkazemi said the Raisi administration has to pay 5,350 trillion rials ($19 billion) in principal amount plus interest on bonds that mature up until 2026.
“The new government is working to settle payments of previous bonds rather than generate income from bonds [for other needs],” he wrote.
Most of the debt was issued in the past three years when the former government was grappling with unprecedented budget deficits due to tough economic sanctions unleashed by former US president, Donald Trump, in 2018. The brutal coronavirus pandemic made a bad budgetary situation worse.
The Economy Ministry has prepared an inventory of 2,500 properties owned by different government organizations that have no legal constraints vis-à-vis divestments.
The properties are estimated to be worth 170 trillion rials ($607 million), according to Fatemeh Dadgar, head of the ministry’s Department for Government Assets.
“These properties have been recognized as excess and are ready for sale, and have all the legal ownership documents,” she was quoted as saying by the Economy Ministry news agency, shada.ir.
Divestible assets can be sold either via public auction or at the Iran Mercantile Exchange.
The Central Bank of Iran has given details about its recently-announced instant payment system seen as a major development in the country's banking and payment network.
According to Davoud Mohmmad Beigi, head of CBI payment systems department, the instant payment system is set for launch in December, way2pay reported.
"It will replace the currently popular card-to-card mechanism for transferring money. Users will have to provide bank account number(s) for transfers instead of bank card numbers."
The system is an interbank service under CBI auspices and will handle instant settlement of payments in large and small amounts.
Relentless sell-side pressure in the previous session eased to some extent on Sunday amid a rise in demand for large caps.
The benchmark of Tehran Stock Exchange, TEDPIX, opened in the negative territory but pared losses in the middle of the session to close 3,480.87 points or 0.25% higher and fend trading at 1,386,973.
TSE’s equal-weighted index closed slightly under the flatline and lost 0.5%. Unlike the market cap-weighted TEDPIX, the index better reflects the performance of small caps.
