Iran’s natural gas production will reach 940 million cubic meters per day during winter when consumption of the domestic, commercial, industrial and power plants rises, managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company said.
“Of this amount, 700 million cubic meters of gas will be provided through 37 offshore platforms in the Persian Gulf and the South Pars Gas Field, which account for 70% of the country's gas output,” Mohsen Khojastehmehr was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.
Emphasizing on providing safe fuel in the cold months of this year, he said, “We will have maximum gas production in the winter and liquid fuel will be used where needed.”
Curbing water use in agriculture, which is the most water-intensive sector, is necessary and the failure to do so will have catastrophic consequences, a leading climatologist and a university professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology said.
“The annual volume of water consumption in Iran has reached 100 billion cubic meters, of which 90 bcm are used for conventional farming practices and it should be cut by half so that the country can meet agricultural needs sustainably in the long run,” Nasser Karami also told Mehr News Agency.
Crop pattern or the list of crops produced in an area and their sequence have been among the major challenges facing Iran’s agriculture sector in the past many years.

A total of 213,000 tons of chocolate and pastry worth $189 million were exported from Iran during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept. 22), around 66,000 tons worth $75 million of which were made in East Azarbaijan Province.
“From Iran’s 563 chocolate and pastry production factories, 125 are located in East Azarbaijan. Their production capacity is 417,845 tons per year,” Mohammad Naqi Honarbar, a local official, was quoted as saying.
The northeastern province’s products are exported to 51 countries, he added.
Honarbar noted that Iran exports chocolate and pastry to 75 countries, mainly to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the UAE, the Ivory Coast, the US and several European countries.
The Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade's review of the current Iranian year’s first five months (March 21-Aug. 22) show the output of six mineral products (out of 12 under review) saw growth compared with the similar period of last year.
A total of 222,900 tons of pure aluminum ingots were produced during the period, up 30.8% compared with the corresponding period of last year.
Sheet glass production rose by 26.5% YOY to more than 548,400 tons.
The production of porcelain dishes increased by 22.8% YOY to 24,700 tons while tile and ceramic output hit 181.97 million square meters, experiencing a 7.5% YOY increase.
Iran’s commercial exchanges with its leading trading partner, China, stood at $10.43 billion in the first nine months of 2021, registering a 6.9% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2020.
Latest data released by China’s General Administration of Customs show Iran’s exports to China totaled $4.82 billion during the period, indicating a 4.9% increase year-on-year.
In return, China exported $5.61 billion worth of commodities to Iran, indicating a 15.1% YOY decrease.
Bilateral trade stood at $1.09 billion in September 2021.
Iran’s exports to China stood at $473.4 million during the month while imports from China amounted to $618.49 million in September 2021.
The 13th International Floor Covering, Moquette, Machine-Made Carpet and Related Industries Exhibition, also known as FMCEX 2021, is scheduled to open on Nov. 7 in Tehran’s International Permanent Fairground, the news portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture reported.

Domestic passenger traffic in Iranian airports saw year-on-year growth of 8% during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept. 22), as 11.96 million passengers were flown internally by Iranian airlines during the period.
Data released by Iran Airports Company also show takeoffs and landings posted a 33% YOY growth to 155,472.
Over 95.69 million tons of cargos were shipped during the period under review, 21% more year-on-year.
Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport accounted for 4.6 million of the total number of passengers, 2% more than in the corresponding period of last year.
Interbank rates continue to rise climbing to 20.31% as of Thursday, the Central Bank of Iran said.
Rates have been of the ascending order since late August rising from 18.29% and now are the highest since the beginning of the current fiscal year in March.
It was 19.9% in late March before declining to 17.95% on July 8, the lowest this year. Since then the rates have risen steadily. The decline in the first few months was linked largely to liquidity surplus in the interbank market.
Incessant upsurge in rates apparently suggests a pattern of liquidity crunch and the CBI’s expansionary policy has done little if anything to curb it.
The Central Insurance company of Iran, the regulatory body of the sector, is working on a plan to offer insurance cover for bank card holders.
Gholamreza Soleimani, the CII head, says the plan calls for covering debit and credit cards against illegal use, theft and fraud, IRIB quoted him as saying on Saturday.
Soleimani referred to the high number of bank card fraud cases in recent years, saying that the industry is striving to help address understandable concerns of the largely debit card holders.

Charts regularly published by Tehran Air Quality Control Company’s website, Airnow.tehran.ir, indicate that the “good” quality status was not recorded even for a day and has become a thing of the past.
Mostly “moderate” status dominated the month, keeping Air Quality Index between 51 and 100 for 26 days. Oct. 31 is also forecast by TAQCC to have a moderate air quality.
AQI categorizes conditions dictated by a measure of polluting matters into good (0-50), moderate (51-100), unhealthy for sensitive groups (101-150), unhealthy (151-200), very unhealthy (201-300) and hazardous (301-500).
