Land subsidence is defined as a gradual settling, or sudden sinking of the earth's surface owing to subsurface movement of earth materials.
Its main causes are aquifer-system compaction, drainage of organic soils, underground mining, hydro-compaction, gas and oil extraction as well as earthquake.
The center for development of downstream petroleum industry at the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry is producing lubricants for wellhead valves, director of the research center said.
“The transfer of gas and liquid fluids in oil and gas complexes is one of the most important tasks of wellhead valves. In case of emergency, the flow of fluids can be established or stopped by opening and closing the valves. One of the things that should be considered in the maintenance of these valves is their lubrication,” the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana also quoted Mojgan Shirkhani as saying.
Shirkhani, who is in charge of the well lubricant production project, said improving the performance of valves and preventing their corrosion are one of the most important tasks of lubrication.
Big power users, including automakers, steel complexes and cement factories who say load shedding will sound the death knell of their industry, want the government to pass regulations to help them generate their own electricity because they no longer want to be at the mercy of the state-run Power Generation, Distribution and Transmission Company (Tavanir), the Energy Ministry's deputy for economic and planning department said.
“Industries want us to pave the way for them to build their own small-scale power stations to be used during peak demand when they have to turn off all their equipment,” Mohsen Bakhtiar was also quoted as saying by ILNA.
The output of Nouri Petrochemical Company in southern Bushehr Province increased by about 527,000 tons in the last Iranian year (March 2020-21) compared to the preceding year, which resulted in a 270% growth in the company’s net profits, the company’s managing director said.
“It produced 4.865 million tons of products during the last fiscal year, which was 526,772 tons more than a year ago,” Taqi Sanei was quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.
“This was a new production record in the company, as its output was 16% more than what was planned for last year’s production,” he added.
Iran’s commercial transactions with the US amounted to $16.6 million during the first five months of 2021 to register a 17.5% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2020.
Despite the decline in five-month trade, bilateral exchanges in May 2021 amounted to $4.2 million, up 50% compared with $2.8 million in May 2020.
Latest data released by the US Census Bureau show Iran exported $0.2 million worth of goods to the US in the five months, indicating a 93.2% year-on-year fall.
Imports from the US stood at $16.4 million during the same period, down 4.7% from $17.2 million during the last fiscal year.
The World Steel Association’s latest report shows Iran is the world’s second biggest producer of direct reduced iron after India.
A total of 12.18 million tons of DRI, also known as sponge iron, were produced in Iran during January-May to register a 1.6% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2020, the latest report released by the World Steel Association shows.
The country has remained the second biggest DRI producer in the world, after its primary rival, India, which produced a total of 16.27 million tons (up 40% year-on-year) during the period under review, according to the Brussels-based international trade body for the iron and steel industry.
The world’s total DRI output in the first five months of 2021 stood at 42.84 million tons to witness a 16.3% growth YOY.
The average goods and services Consumer Price Index of “leisure and culture” in the 12-month period ending June 21, which marks the end of the third Iranian month of fiscal 2021-22, increased by 50.3% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
The CPI of “leisure and culture” stood at 412.7 in the month ending June 21, indicating a 2.2% rise compared with the month before.
The index, with a coefficient of 1.65%, registered a year-on-year increase of 55.2%.
A total of 120 million trout eyed eggs worth $3.1 million were imported during the last Iranian year (March 2020-21), showing a 162% and 60.76% plunge in the number and value respectively compared with the year before, according to the head of Iran Fisheries Organization.

The official noted that Iran’s overall domestic demand for trout eyed eggs stands at 500 million per year.

Iran’s domestic demand for apparel stands at 510,000 tons, while annual production is around 385,000 tons per year, according to the vice chairman of Iran's Textile and Apparel Production and Export Union.

Registration for the fifth round of recruitment exam of private sector companies started on July 10 and will continue for two weeks.

The annual expenses of knowledge-based companies and startups at the tech centers reach 1.7 billion rials ($6,800) plus a small part of their sale, according to Siavash Malekifar, a deputy head of the fund.
The grant from INIF covers 70% of the funds required, Mehr News Agency reported.
“The initiative is aimed at strengthening Iran's scientific and economic ties with the target countries, allowing local knowledge-based businesses to market and sell their products,” he said.
