About 9,000 tons of shrimps will be caught in the current Iranian year (started March 21), predicted an official with Iran Fisheries Organization.”The shrimp fishing season will begin in the provinces of Khuzestan and Bushehr in August, and will last about 45 days,” Mehr News Agency quoted Mokhtar Akhoundi as saying. The official said sea shrimp reserves are being constantly monitored by the Shrimp Research Center located in Bushehr Province, and the shrimp-fishing season will immediately stop if shrimp reserves drop below the standard limit. Earlier in June, head of Iran Fisheries Organization, Hassan Salehi, announced exports to Russia of more than 20,000 tons of fish and other aquatic products such as shrimp and trout will start as of July 23.
