As water becomes increasingly precious worldwide, it is projected that more conflicts will arise as several nations compete for limited water resources. Indeed, water-related tensions have mounted among Iran, Turkey, Iraq and Afghanistan, which share borders.
Oil prices climbed for a third straight session on Friday, on track for a fifth consecutive weekly gain, as demand growth is expected to outstrip supply on bets that OPEC+ producers will be cautious in returning more output to the market from August.
More than 95% of Iran’s population are linked to the gas supply network, the oil minister said.
Addressing a weekend ceremony to launch several national projects, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh added that the number of villages connected to the gas grid has increased from 14,000 in 2013 to 35,000 now, which indicates a 2.5-fold increase in the past eight years, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.
“In view of these measures, 95.1% of Iranians now have access to natural gas, which is a unique figure in the world. Currently, 98.4% of the urban population and 84.6% of the rural population are linked to the gas grid, while in 2013, 95% of the urban 54% of the rural population had access to natural gas,” he said.
A total of 62,325 tons of green tea leaves have been purchased by the government from local farmers so far this year, showing a 10% rise compared with the similar period of last year, the head of Iran Tea Organization said on Wednesday.
“This amount has cost the government around 3.91 trillion rials [$15.9 million]. Some 48,907 tons of the purchases [79% of the total] are top-quality tea leaves and the remaining 13,418 tons [21%] belong to other varieties of leaves,” Habibollah Jahansaz was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official noted that out of the overall green leaf production until now, more than 14,000 tons of processed tea have been derived.

One of the main issues of Iran’s economy over the past decades has been the fact that the private sector and the government have contrasting opinions about the principles of economics.
The Foreign Ministry’s budget, when converted to foreign currency, is 10% less in the current fiscal year (2021-22) compared with that of last year (2020-21).
“The current year’s budget also shows a decline of 16% and 30% compared with the fiscal 2019-20 and 2018-19, respectively,” ISNA reported, citing the ministry’s Public Relations Department.
“The ministry’s foreign exchange budget rate was set at 120,000 rials per US dollar in the fiscal 2020-21, while the conversion rate of 224,000 rials has been set in the Budget Law of 2021-22. Accordingly, the ministry’s budget has decreased compared with last fiscal year, despite its increase of 90% in terms of rial, as its expenses are in foreign currency,” the statement read.
Iranian steel mills produced a total of 12.5 million tons of crude steel in the first five months of 2021, which indicate a 9.2% rise compared with the corresponding period in 2020.
As per the latest report released by the World Steel Association, Iran's May output amounted to 2.6 million tons, up 7.7% year-on-year.
The report ranks Iran the world’s 10th biggest crude steel producer. China was the world’s largest crude steel producer in the five-month period with 473.1 million tons of steel output, up 13.9% YOY.
Exports to Kuwait stood at $24 million in the first two months of the current fiscal year (March 21-May 21), registering a 68% growth in terms of value year-on-year, according to the head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran’s Arab-African Affairs Department.
