Venues providing wedding receptions and funeral wakes will be hosting guests at one-fourth of their capacity during the Norouz (Iranian New Year) holidays (from March 21 to April 2), Khosro Ebrahimnia, the head of Reception Hall Owners’ Union says.
Noting that the Interior Ministry has not issued a directive regarding the closure of reception halls during holidays, Ebrahiminia said, “A maximum of 70 people will be able to attend an event in reception halls that normally host 400 people to allow for social distancing … All personnel must wear protective masks and gloves, and there should be a generous supply of sanitizer.”
The official noted that at present, people are reluctant to use services provided by reception halls, because of which one year into the Covid-19 pandemic, nearly 70% of the wedding venues are still closed.
The Islamic Revolution Housing Foundation’s assessment shows at least 1,000 residential properties of the quake-stricken city of Sisakht in southwestern Iran have become uninhabitable and need to be reconstructed, Alireza Tabesh, the head of the foundation, said.
A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Sisakht in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province on Wednesday night, leaving at least 63 injured, causing power blackouts and flattening buildings, Mehr News Agency reported.
“Of these units, 580 were located in the rural areas of the province and the rest were in the city of Sisakht, located on the foothills of Zagros Mountains, 34 km from Yasuj, in the northern part of the province,” he said.
The average annual inflation gap measured by the Statistical Center of Iran among income deciles stood at 9.2% in the 11th Iranian month (Jan. 20-Feb. 18), indicating a 0.3 percentage point decline compared with the previous month (9.5%).
The inflation gap in “food, beverages and tobacco” group among income deciles increased by 0.2 percentage points and that of “non-food and services” group widened by 0.7 percentage point compared with the month before.
The average goods and services Consumer Price Index in the 12-month period ending Feb. 18 increased 32% for the first decile (those with the lowest income) while it grew 41.3% for the 10th decile (those with the highest income).
The “food, beverages and tobacco” inflation increased by 36.5% for the first decile and 32.3% for the 10th group. “Non-food and services” inflation grew by 27.7% for the first decile and by 43.6% for the 10th decile.
Tehran's currency market was almost stable Monday as foreign exchange rates were unchanged. The dollar traded for 245,000 rials in the free market, posting 1,000 rials or 0.41% decline compared to Sunday's close. The currency appreciated 2.85% on Sunday but dropped 2.38% Saturday.
The Majlis on Monday restricted the government’s ability to use subsidized foreign currency for importing basic goods in the next fiscal year that begins in March.
Reviewing the next budget bill, MPs approved a government proposal in the revised version of the budget to continue the policy to allocating cheap currency for critical imports.
They, however, decided that the government must mot earmark more than $8 billion in cheap currency for importing basic goods and pharmaceuticals, the parliamentary news website ICANA reported.

Iran and South Korea have reached an agreement on using "a part" of Iran’s foreign currency assets frozen in the Asian country.
The agreement was reached in a meeting between the governor of central bank, Abdolnasser Hemmati and South Korea’s ambassador in Tehran, Ryu Jeong-hyun, according to a statement published on the CBI website.
"Agreements were reached on how the money would be transferred to the target destinations," the Central Bank of Iran said in the statement. "The CBI announced the amounts to be transferred and the target banks".
Iranian automotive companies are in the red, owing parts makers 430 trillion rials ($1.72 billion), a member of Iran Auto Parts Makers Association said.
Reza Rezaei added that parts manufacturers are struggling to finance their operations and urged automakers to pay at least part of the debt as soon as possible, Tasnim News Agency reported.
He said the part making sector is a strategic component in the auto sector, which is able to materialize localization goals.
“They deserve more support from the government, but unfortunately the state has paid little attention to the sector,” he added.
Criticizing the cumbersome regulations in the banking system, Rezaei noted that parts makers are having a hard time in getting bank facilities.
