Following an Iraqi delegation’s visit to Iran’s northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province, an agreement was reached on Saturday for the establishment of a direct flight between the Iranian holy city of Mashhad and Iraq’s Basra.

“Under the terms of the agreement, the flight will be launched in the next two weeks to help exchange tourists between the two countries,” Abolfazl Mokarramifar, the director of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Office of Khorasan Razavi Province said in a meeting with the governor of Iraq’s Wasit Province, IRNA reported.

He said tourism between Iran’s Khorasan Razavi Province and Iraq’s Wasit Province in the fields of pilgrimage and health tourism can be further promoted.

The two sides also agreed that the citizens of Wasit Province make use of Khorasan Razavi’s health tourism capacities and that Iraq’s Wasit Province can participate in Mashhad’s International Exhibition on Tourism and Related Industries.

Mashhad is home to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH).
