The Foreign Ministry spokesman on Sunday strongly condemned the drone assassination attempt on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Bahram Qasemi condemned the attack, saying “we consider this move a step toward causing instability and insecurity in Venezuela, which could have only benefitted the enemies of the country’s people and government.”

The assassination attempt came in the form of several drones containing explosive charges that detonated close to Maduro, while he was addressing a military parade in the capital Caracas on Saturday afternoon.

Maduro survived the attempt against his life, but seven members of the Venezuelan National Guard were hurt during the blasts.

Following the incident, Maduro addressed the nation, saying some of those involved in the attack had already been captured and charged.

Maduro accused neighboring Colombia and elements within the US of instigating “a right-wing plot” to kill him, but Bogota denied it as a “baseless” accusation.
