Two major cultural venues in Tehran, Niavaran Cultural Center and Roudaki Hall, will host the upcoming National Festival of Youth Music.

The 12th edition of the festival is slated for August 13-23 at Niavaran Cultural Center located at the northern tip of Pasdaran Street, across Niavaran Park. After a weeklong hiatus, the competition among the young musicians will move to Roudaki Hall on August 28-September 8. The hall is located on Shahryar Blvd., Hafez Street, south of Enqelab Avenue.

Each of the 600 young competitors has full command of at least one of the “radifs” or melodic figures of musical modal system in traditional Iranian music, which is a precondition for participation. The musicians are required to be able to improvise in the context outlined by the festival’s jury, IRNA reported.

Participants have been selected from more than 1,600 submitted works. They will be competing in three age groups: 15-18; 19-23; and 24-29.

Festival secretary is the musician Houman As’adi, 47. The event is organized under the auspices of Iran Music House, Music Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and Roudaki Foundation.
