The National Iranian South Oil Company, the Iranian Offshore Oil Company and Iran Central Oil Fields Company -- all subsidiaries of the National Iranian Oil Company – signed contracts with domestic oil and gas firms on Monday to develop eight oilfields.
A total of 585,038 tons of commodities were exported from the northern Gilan Province’s Astara land border during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 20-Dec. 20), which shows a 26% rise compared with the similar period of last year.

Moradi noted that 58,213 tons of commodities were transited through this northern border terminal during the nine months, with rice, tea, chickpeas and flour having the biggest share.
Transportation expenses of urban households have tripled in the last seven years from 12 million rials ($48) in the Iranian year ending March 2013 to 37 million rials ($148) in the year ending March 2019, the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare reported.
However, in the year ending March 2020, transportation expenses reduced by 0.8% compared with the previous year to reach 36.7 million rials ($146.8).
The average transportation expenses for rural households increased from 8 million rials ($32) in the year ending March 2013 to 25 million rials ($100) in the year ending March 2020, suggesting a threefold rise over the period.
The share of transportation expenses from the overall households’ expenses in urban areas was on the rise from the year ending March 2014 to March 2018 and declined from the year ending March 2018 to March 2020. The sharpest decline was 1.7% year-on-year registered in the year ending March 2020.

A total of 804,000 tons of commodities worth $1.69 billion were exported from West Azarbaijan Province during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 20-Dec. 20, 2020) to register a 10% decline and a 38% rise in tonnage and value respectively compared with the similar period of last year.
Imports of livestock and poultry feed saw a 5% decline in weight and a 7% decrease in value to reach 11.3 million tons worth $3.33 billion in nine months to Dec. 20.
A total of 7.23 million tons of corns worth $1.77 billion were imported over the period, indicating a 17% and 16% rise in weight and value year-on-year respectively, the news outlet of Iran Feed Grain Importers Union reported.
Iran imported 1.34 million tons of barley worth $326.83 million during the nine-month period, which registers a 47% and 49% decline in weight and value respectively compared with the corresponding period of the year before.
After nearly a year of being closed to stop the spread of Covid-19, reception halls have been finally permitted to reopen doors.
Airline companies’ debts to Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport amount to 5,100 billion rials ($20 million), the director general of the airport said.
“Iran’s four major airlines have unpaid debts worth over 3,850 billion rials [$15.4 million] to Mehrabad for services they have received from the airport. The smallest of such debts is 100 billion rials [$400,000] and the biggest is 1,670 billion rials [$6.68 million],” Ebrahim Moradi was also quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.
“The airlines’ failure to repay their debts would lead to a decline in the airport’s quality of services as well as its incapability to fund its various projects,” he added.

Natural gas waste in Iran’s national grid is three times higher than the global average.
A report from the National Iranian Gas Company Dispatching Department says close to 26 billion cubic meters of gas is wasted in the network every year. “This huge volume is 9% of the total annual gas output at 290 bcm,” the company said.
It blamed ageing equipment, the 36,000 km network and more than 100 gas pressure boosting stations in use for almost three decades.
Gas wastage in countries with much bigger grids than Iran namely the US, Russia, Canada, China, Mexico and Ukraine is about 3%.
The main index of Tehran Stock Exchange, TEDPIX, dropped 0.41% on Monday, losing 5,375.44 points to end trading at 1,301,245.
Blue chips and large caps pulled down the market cap-weighted TEDPIX as also indicated by 1.12% decline in TSE-30 Index, which track the performance of 30 top TSE-listed companies in terms of market capitalization.
Small caps performed better to push up the equal-weighted index by 0.6%. The index gives the same weight to all shares irrespective of their market cap.
Reversing the course from previous sessions, gold and foreign exchange prices dropped on Monday in Tehran's market. The dollar was quoted at 248,000 rials down 1,300 rials or 0.53% compared to the day earlier.
Other major currencies, namely euro UAE dirham also dipped. The UK pound sterling eked out slight gains, the euro was down 0.58% to reach 306,290 rials while the UK pound fetched 339,070 rials gaining 0.2%. The dirham was worth 69,800 rials down 0.15% compared to Sunday, according to eghtesadnews.
Checks worth 221 trillion rials ($850 million) bounced in the month to November 20 -- 3.1% higher on a monthly basis.
According to data published by Central Bank of Iran, the number of bad checks stood at 681,000 down 7.2%. Bounced checks accounted for 8.5% and 11.6% of the total volume and value of written checks, respectively.
Bad checks in Tehran Province accounted for 7.3% and 11% of all drawn checks in the capital in volume and value terms.
During the month under review, the number of checks returned in the capital reached close to 171,000 worth 100 trillion rials ($384.61m).
The Central Bank of Iran demanded Monday South Korea release billions of its foreign exchange assets blocked in that country.
South Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun arrived in Tehran on Sunday for talks related to the release of a Korean oil tanker seized by Iranian authorities last week and the fate of money blocked by the Seoul government.
Choi and the accompanying delegation met senior government and banking officials, including Abdolnasser Hemmati, the CBI governor.
Hemmati criticized Korea's inappropriate attitude towards Iran’s assets blocked for more than two years. "This is unacceptable…Iran would not be indifferent if the delays continue," he was quoted as saying by the CBI website.
Iranian assets locked in South Korea are estimated between $7-9 billion. Hemmati complained that Korean banks are holding the assets due to US pressures.
The National Coronavirus Headquarters is planning a deal to exchange oil for new buses to streamline the ramshackle public transportation network by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20), First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri said.
During the inauguration of several urban projects on Saturday attended by Tehran Mayor Pirouz Hanachi and Tehran City Council Mohsen Hashemi, Jahangiri expressed concerns about the metropolis’ public transportation.
