The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Iran soared past one million on Thursday, less than 10 months into the pandemic, as the Health Ministry reported a decline in hospitalizations and deaths.
The first phase of a large wind farm in the Mil-e-Nader village in Zabol County, southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, started partial operation on Thursday, deputy minister of energy said.
“The 50 MW plant, under construction on 25 hectares, has 20 turbines the first of which was linked to the national grid,” Homayoun Haeri was quoted as saying by the Energy Ministry news portal.
The turbines are equipped with a permanent magnet direct-drive system in which the turbine and the generator are joined to form a compact and structurally integrated unit.
“The design gives free access to all parts for easy installation and maintenance.” The robust low speed rotor design with no separate cooling system results in minimum wear, reduced maintenance requirements, lower life cycle costs, and a long lifetime, Haeri said.
Large BB3 multistage centrifugal pumps used in the oil and gas industry have been indigenized, the managing director of Iran Industrial Pumps Company said.
“The pumps are intricate in terms of design and manufacturing. All stages of production are now done by domestic engineers from design, molding and casting, to testing and installation," Gholam Hossein Farajpour was quoted as saying by IRIB News Agency.
The pumps will be used in national projects to transfer oil from Goureh to Jask, he added. Fifty pumps each with 2.5 megawatts are needed,” Farajpour noted.
Oil prices jumped around 2% on Friday, heading for a fifth week of gains, as major producers agreed on a compromise to continue some cuts to production to cope with coronavirus-hit demand even though these fell short of expectations.
A total of 1.09 million tons of commodities worth $518 million were exported from the central Markazi Province’s customs terminals to 88 countries during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 20-Nov. 20), showing a 12% and 25% decline in weight and value respectively compared with the similar period of last year.
High prices of livestock feed, low ceiling for egg prices set by the government and hefty export duties are adversely impacting egg production industry.
Last week, according to Fars News Agency, a deputy minister of Agricultural Jihad announced that exporters were required to pay 35,000 rials [$0.14] in duty per kilogram of egg shipment, "until further notice".

The average goods and services Consumer Price Index of “health and treatment” in the 12-month period ending Nov. 20, which marks the end of the eighth Iranian month, increased by 25% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
According to the Statistical Center of Iran, the CPI of “health and treatment” among 12 groups of the basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households stood at 218.7 during the period, indicating a 3.2% increase compared with the month before.
The index, with a coefficient of 7.14%, registered an increase of 33.9% compared with the similar month of last year.
Iran’s gross domestic product contracted by 1.9% during the first half of the current fiscal year (March 20-Sept. 21) compared with the corresponding period of last year, the Statistical Center of Iran’s latest report shows.
Economic growth, excluding oil, stood at -1.3%, the report added.
A sectoral breakdown of growth rates in the report shows that only “agriculture” and “industries and mining” sectors experienced growth with 1.7% and 2% respectively.
The “industries and mining” contracted 0.7% and “services” sector contracted 3.5%.
SCI also reported economic growth in the second quarter of the current year (June 21-Sept. 21): Iran’s GDP expanded 0.2% in Q2 while it shrank 0.2%, excluding oil sector. The “agriculture” sector saw a 2.7% expansion, “industries and mining” 4% while “industries and mining sector” expanded 4.2%. The “services” sector, however, contracted by 3% in Q2.
The Central Insurance company of Iran, the industry’s regulatory body, is in the process of setting up a special fund to cover 30 million homes against natural disasters.
Parliament recently passed a bill calling for ‘Natural Disaster Insurance Fund’ to cover residential units subscribed to the national power grid, Gholamreza Soleimani, the CII president, was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The government hopes to sell bonds worth about 750 trillion rials ($3 billion) in the 2021-2022 fiscal year.
As per the new budget bill sent to parliament on Wednesday, the government said it intends to offer bonds worth 230 trillion rials ($920m) "to fund spending, including for completing development projects".
The government is also allowed to issue bonds up to 100 trillion rials ($400m) to pay the principal and interest on matured bonds issued as per previous budgets, according to the draft budget published by the Plan and Budget Organization.
The Majlis Research Center in a report explored the main reasons behind the sharp increase in consumer prices in the second quarter of the current fiscal year (June 21-Sept.21).
"The Consumer Price Index rose by 14.07% on a quarterly basis, which is the highest in the past four quarters,” the MRC said in a report published on its website.
Citing data from the Statistical Center of Iran, the parliamentary think-tank said in the 12-month period ending Sept. 21, the CPI increased by 26% compared to last year.
