The First IORA Free Trade Zones Authorities Conference will be held on May 19-20 in Chabahar Free Zone in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province.
Indian Ocean Rim Association—formerly known as the Indian Ocean Rim Initiative and Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation—is an international organization comprising coastal states bordering the Indian Ocean, Mehr News Agency reported.
The association has 20 members, namely Australia, Bangladesh, Comoros, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Yemen and the UAE. Promoting sustainable growth and balanced development of the region and member states; surveying areas of economic cooperation and removing barriers to free flow of goods, services, investment and technology within the Indian Ocean rim are among IORA’s objectives.
Mahmoud Ahmadi Afzadi, temporary secretary of the summit; Hamed Ali Mobaraki, CEO of Chabahar Free Zone; and Akbar Torkan, advisor to the President Hassan Rouhani and secretary of Supreme Council of Iran’s Free Trade, Industrial and Special Economic Zones, will be among keynote speakers at the confab, according to the event’s website at www.iorafreezones.com.
