Parents should not leave their children unattended in the upcoming “fire jumping festival of Chaharshanbe Suri,” warned a health official. Shahram Rafeei, safety deputy at the health ministry urged parents “to be very careful in protecting their children from risky behavior on this day” and that “coercion does not work best in persuading children.” Refeei listed burns and explosions as the primary risks threatening children and adolescents. He also called on the media to raise awareness about the dangers. Chaharshanbe Suri festival is traditionally celebrated on the last Tuesday night of the Iranian year (ends March 20) in mid-March, ISNA reports.
