Presidents of Iran and Turkey aid Friday that closer cooperation and consultation between the two countries is needed to address regional issues, including the hostile policy adopted by Israel and the United States toward the Palestinians.
"Closer consultations and relations between Tehran and Ankara benefit both nations and help augment peace, stability and security in the region," President Hassan Rouhani told his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the sidelines of an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, the president's official website reported.
Turkey called for the summit after Israeli troops shot dead 60 unarmed Palestinians and injured more than 2,700 during protests on the Gaza border against the relocation of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Beit-ul-Moqaddas on May 14—in the bloodiest day of the conflict since the 2014 Gaza war.
Saudi Arabia does not have much room for maneuver in Iraq despite the electoral victory of a political bloc led by the cleric Moqtada al-Sadr whose rare visit to the oil kingdom last year signaled a possible rapprochement with Riyadh, says a lawmaker. The Sairoon electoral list backed by Sadr and who has challenged both United States and Iran—won the parliamentary election, winning 54 parliamentary seats, Reuters reported, citing a Saturday announcement by the electoral commission.
"Saudi Arabia may be able to wield influence on certain people in isolated cases and for a limited period. But the overall situation in Iraq is not against Iran from different perspectives, and Iran has a diverse connections in Iraq," Elias Hazrati told ICANA.

The European Union’s energy chief tried to reassure Iran on Saturday that the bloc remained committed to salvaging a nuclear deal with Tehran despite US President Donald Trump’s decision to exit the accord and reimpose sanctions.
The European Commissioner for Energy and Climate, Miguel Arias Canete, delivered the message during a visit to Tehran and said the 28-nation EU hoped to boost trade with Iran, Reuters reported.
“We have sent a message to our Iranian friends that as long as they are sticking to the (nuclear) agreement the Europeans will... fulfill their commitment. And they said the same thing on the other side,” Canete told a news conference.
“We will try to intensify our flows of trade that have been very positive for the Iranian economy.”

Natural gas refining complexes produced over 237 million barrels of gas condensates in 2017, a deputy at the National Iranian Gas Company said on Saturday.
"The output level witnessed 13% growth in 2017 compared to the corresponding period in 2016 when production stood at 210 million barrels," Mehdi Jamshidi-Dana was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.
According to the official, condensate output is slated to reach 1 million barrels a day upon the launch of all phases of South Pars—the giant gas field shared by Iran and Qatar. But Tehran has said it wants to reduce outbound shipments of condensates and instead use fossil fuel for manufacturing goods with higher value added.
Iran's Petroleum University of Technology and Austria’s University of Leoben signed on Tuesday a non-disclosure agreement on oilfield development plans and a memorandum of understanding on establishing a joint center for increasing oil extraction.
According to ISNA, the Iranian university, which is a pioneering academic body cooperating with oilfield-based plans, has chosen the University of Leoben as one of its partners. It can help successfully implement a plan to increase Gachsaran Oilfield’s extraction rate.

In line with efforts to use the country's maximum potential in harnessing renewables, 55 zones have been identified in the northern Mazandaran Province for developing solar power plants, a senior official said.
"Plans are high on the agenda to implement four solar plants in the province by the end of the current [fiscal] year [ending March 2019]," Qasem Shahabi, the managing director of Power Distribution Company of Mazandaran Province, was also quoted as saying by Zist Online. Studies will be conducted to survey other zones for prospective ventures, he added. The geographical data of the regions will be sent to the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran to raise funds through the country’s top state-owned organization for renewable energies.
Referring to the vast potentials of the province for harnessing green energy, the official said there are currently three active solar farms in Mazandaran, which number needs to increase since the renovation of the region's traditional power grid is costly.
Some 12 million day-old chickens are lost as a result of transportation by unfit vehicles, causing around 7 trillion rials ($166.66 million) in losses to chicken farmers, the secretary of Day-Old Chicken Producers Association said. Gholamali Fareghi made the announcement during the international conference titled “Transport Management in Poultry Industry” on Wednesday, Mehr News Agency reported. It was announced during the conference that agreements have been reached to import specialized vehicles for the transportation of day-old chickens into Iran from the Netherlands. More than one billion day-old chickens are produced in Iran every year. The country is ranked the seventh biggest chicken producer in the world, with chicken meat output reaching over 2.2 million tons, Hassan Rokni, an advisor to Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati, said during the conference. Iran’s per capita consumption of chicken is twice the global average, as Iranians consume 28 kilograms while the global average is 14-15 kilograms. Last Iranian year (March 2017-18), 1.26 billion broiler chickens and 38 million egg-laying chickens were produced in Iran.
More than 350 tons of pencil lead worth 47.35 billion rials ($1.4 million) were imported from six countries during the last Iranian year (March 2017-18), based on figures released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration. With more than 243 tons, China was the biggest exporter of the product to Iran over the period, followed by Germany, the UAE, Turkey, South Korea and Japan, Mizan Online reported.

Things have changed dramatically for Iran's flagship aluminum producer in a year. Iran Aluminum Company has turned from a loss-making producer to a prosperous company with highly sought-after shares.
And not much has been done by the company itself to turn the tide. In fact, latest data show production and sales volume have slid year-on-year.
But what matters is that IRALCO has simply sold its goods for more, enough to convert a loss-ridden year into a profitable one.
As Iran is dealing with the ramifications of the government's policy announced on April 9 to unify the country's dual foreign exchange rates, the private sector has called on President Hassan Rouhani's administration to make a series of changes to its policy, especially by creating a secondary foreign exchange market.
"If the government allows the formation of a secondary foreign exchange market with the aim of providing currency for other needs [besides imports, travelers and students], foreign exchange rates will also decline," Masoud Khansari, the head of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, was quoted as saying by TCCIM's official website.
He was speaking on Saturday at the latest dialogue council of Tehran's private sector players and identified several deficiencies in the government's currency policy.
Global insurers are taking stock of how the US withdrawal from the international agreement to curb Tehran's nuclear program and renewed sanctions against companies that do business with Iran could affect them.
Insurance broker Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. said on Friday it will continue to monitor developments following the US withdrawal from the Iran deal, while Zurich-based Swiss Re said it is “assessing the impact” of the US decision on its business.
Gallagher, based in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, has British and Norwegian subsidiaries that have brokered insurance and advised clients on activities related to Iran’s oil and gas industry, as recently as the 2018 first quarter, according to a filing, Reuters reported.
Rebuffing appeals from France, Germany and Britain, US President Donald Trump withdrew the United States 10 days ago from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six major powers.
The move has spurred global insurers and other companies to rethink their dealings in Iran, as they await further guidance from the United States and European Union.
Iran’s diplomatic offices in Iraq will charge their consular services in either euros or dinars instead of the US dollar, effective from Tuesday as part of a new Iranian policy to reduce its reliance on the US currency. The legal risks posed by US sanctions against the Islamic Republic have made overseas lenders and firms unwilling to do business with Tehran, IBENA reported.

Telecommunications Company of Iran is set to underwrite 8 trillion rials ($190.4 million) worth of equity-based Ijarah sukuk on Tehran Stock Exchange today (Sunday). “The four-year bonds will be used to finance TCI’s working capital,” Gholamreza Aboutorabi, the head of Central Securities Depository of Iran, said. They will bear 16% annual interest paid every quarter. This is the second time this type of Islamic debt security is being issued on the Iranian capital market. The first was by Social Security Investment Company worth 10 trillion rials ($238 million) on March 12. Ijarah sukuk are securities representing the ownership of well-defined assets tied up to a lease contract, the rent for which is the return payable to sukuk holders.
Through a joint venture with Iranian carmaker SAIPA, French automotive giant Citroen presold 2,000 units of its small city hatchback C3 in its initial offering in the country on May 16.
According to a company press release, over 44,000 car enthusiasts tried to register in the presales, while the company had only 2,000 units on offer. Apologizing for the inconvenience, the company says it will launch further sales in the near future.
SAIPA-Citroen initiated the presale of the C3 in Iran last Wednesday. The vehicle was offered through online sales website Iran e-Car, with buyers being charged 600 million rials ($14,285) as a down payment.
The JV is yet to announce the final price for the model. As per an official statement, the vehicles will be delivered in August and exclusively in Tehran.
The auto industry faces scrutiny on multiple fronts as car prices spike in Iran, with the bullish market observing a 10% price increase only in recent weeks.
The industry seems to be stuck in a witch's brew comprised of raging inflation, wobbly foreign currency rate and human avarice.
Public outrage over the rising prices ignited a media firestorm, which goaded the Iranian Parliament to summon Iran Khodro and SAIPA's CEOs as well as Industries Minister Mohammad Shariatmadari to present their arguments, local automotive website Asbe Bokhar reported.
According to lawmaker Nader Qazipour, the two major manufacturers have hoarded products in storage, leading to price increases. "IKCO has stockpiled 30,000 vehicles while SAIPA has done the same with 60,000 units."
Qazipour says carmakers have produced the said vehicles receiving subsidized currency from the government at the rate of 32,000 rials to the US dollar. With the dollar-rial exchange rate unified at 42,000, the carmakers are now hoping to sell the cars at excessively higher prices.
Since last December, the foreign exchange market has been in a state of upheaval as the US dollar exchange rate jumped to unprecedented levels several times before the government of President Hassan Rouhani stepped in and unified the rate at 42,000 rials last month to put an end to the raging market.
The first online shopping website offering gems and precious stones from South Khorasan Province was launched on Saturday, a deputy head at the provincial office of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization announced. Named "Agatoon", the online shop provides carved and scraped gem stones with their technical information, as a reliable and certified retailer," CHTN quoted Hossein Abbaszadeh as saying. The official added that the multilingual service of the website together with smart and simple graphic designs have made it possible for both Iranian and foreign customers to easily make a purchase.

Hardly any stretch of the northern Caspian Sea coastline is left pristine, and Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman shores are threatened by human activity and urban development.
Iran boasts over 5,800 kilometers of shoreline which extend across the northern and southern borders; however, inefficient management and inaction have left the valuable lands under the destructive hands of man, IRNA reported.
More popular with travelers, especially from the capital, the northern coasts have suffered greater damage.
Actor and director Javad Ensafi is to bring on stage “A City Without Beggars,” a play written by theater actor, director and playwright Hassan Dowlatabadi.
“The play is written in the genre of siah-bazi,” Ensafi told ISNA. Siah-bazi is a type of Iranian folk performing art that typically features a mischievous and forthright harlequin with a blackface who does improvisations to make people laugh.
It had an earlier performance at Honar Hall in Tehran in late 2015. It was directed by children’s theater actor and playwright Narges Asghari whose focus was more on pedagogy than presenting humor.
A City Without Beggars follows the story of Rajab, a blacksmith apprentice. One day, on his way to the water reservoir, he accidentally drops the pot that belongs to his master and breaks it. His desperate situation with the broken pot makes him an apt object of compassion. Long story short, Rajab becomes a professional beggar and travels from one city to another, until he comes to a city where beggary is banned.
The Tehran-based artistic group of Naqsh-e Honar is calling for submission of paintings and sculptures. Deadline for submissions is May 31. They are to be submitted to the Instagram page of the organizing group, Instagram.com/naghshe_honar_group. Selected works will be put on display at an exhibition hosted by Saba Cultural Institute affiliated to the Iranian Academy of the Arts. The exhibit will open on June 9 for one week, according to Festivart.ir. Naqsh-e Honar group is known for its eclectic approach to exhibitions where the diversity is often surprising. At the upcoming event participating artists are free in their choice of style, technique, theme and dimension. Saba Cultural Institute is located at No. 125, Mozaffar Brothers Street, near Valiasr-Taleqani intersection.
Graphic artist and textile designer Mehdi Sarookhani has prepared a ‘Qajar Feast’ at Idea Art Gallery.
Running through May 24, the exhibit features a series of collage arts showing manipulated photos of people from the Qajar era (1786-1925) in an unlikely contemporary context, according to Gallery Info website.
“Placing people out of their original settings has always been one of my preoccupations … This led to creation of the present collection,” Sarookhani said.
