Brazil recorded a current-account surplus of $1.2 billion in May, up from a $412 million surplus in April, the central bank said Friday, Nasdaq reported. The result brings the 12-month deficit down to $29.5 billion, from $34 billion in April and $95.7 billion in May 2015. Economists surveyed by the central bank last week forecast the gap narrowing to $15 billion by year end. Net foreign direct investment in May was $6.1 billion versus $6.8 billion in April, with the 12-month figure moving to $79.4 billion, or 4.57% of GDP, down from $79.9 billion, or 4.61% of GDP, the month before.
