A 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Sharbian rural district in East Azarbaijan Province early Monday morning. The quake, which struck at 3:45 am at a depth of 6 kilometers, injured ten people and caused damage to a number of adobe houses, ILNA quoted the spokesperson for Rescue and Relief Organization, Morteza Salimi, as saying. “Seven of the injured received immediate treatment and were discharged. The other three required longer treatment,” said the official. Ayugh village, with a population of 1,120 in 352 households, was the most affected. Local authorities provided food and temporary shelter to residents whose houses were rendered inhabitable after the tremor.
