Families of the victims of the Zemestanyurt coal mine explosion in the northern Golestan Province on May 4, will receive ‘diyye’ (blood money) of 2,100 million rials ($55,000) each. Following the directive by president of the Central Insurance of Iran Abdolnasser Hemmati, families of all the 42 victims of the tragedy will receive the money. Zemestanyurt coal mine was hit by a large explosion caused by methane gas buildup, trapping and killing 42 workers and injuring over 80 people. More than 500 workers are employed at the mine, located 14 km from Azadshahr city.
