About 20% of Iranian couples who number three million are infertile, said Head of Iran Red Cross Society’s Pharmaceutical and Medication Department Hamid Choubineh. “The rate is 10%-25% globally, but almost 90% of the infertile couples in Iran can get treated and have children,” he said on the sidelines of the joint Iran-Italy seminar on infertility treatment held October 6-7 in Tehran. The seminar was organized by the IRCS department in cooperation with Italy’s Health Ministry, ISNA reported. Factors affecting male and female infertility, freezing ovary and eggs, sperm and endometriosis, as well as IVF methods were among topics discussed, Choubineh noted. Around 5,000 infertile couples are covered for treatment by the IRCS.
