The chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has criticized the adoption of a Canada-drafted UN rights resolution against Iran, saying the move is a “disgrace to western countries.” In view of the frequent occurrence of crimes and rights violations in western countries, the self-proclaimed advocates of human rights should adopt resolutions against themselves,” Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in an interview with ICANA on Friday.  The UN General Assembly’s committee handling human rights last Tuesday adopted a non-binding Canada-drafted resolution criticizing Iran for alleged rights violations in the country.    Boroujerdi also said it seems the UN is blind to the violation of the First Nations’ rights in Canada.  “The UN rights resolution against Iran had been proposed by Canada despite the fact that the country’s government has been a violator of human rights in different periods, and the First Nations in the country have frequently been oppressed.”
