Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the July nuclear agreement with major powers has prepared the ground for expansion of economic relations between Iran and Japan.

“Japan, by making investment in various sectors, can restore its previous economic position in Iran,” Zarif said in a meeting with Japanese Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Kentaro Sonoura in Tehran on Sunday, Press TV reported.

The top Iranian diplomat underlined the need for increased bilateral cooperation on Middle East issues.

The Japanese official said Tokyo attaches great importance to relations with Tehran, expressing hope that the two countries would take measures to enhance economic ties.

He also submitted a written message from Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida to Zarif.
