Mehdi Chamran won the majority of votes in the election of the presiding board of the Tehran City Council on Tuesday to stay on as chairman for another one-year term, Fars News Agency reported. Of 31 votes cast, principlist Chamran received 17 votes, reformist Ahmad Masjed-Jamei gained 13, with one abstention. Reformist Elahe Rastgou withdrew her candidacy for membership of the board shortly before the vote.
