Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani says the people were the driving force behind the changes which came after the administration of President Hassan Rouhani took office in August 2013.
“It was the people who managed to change the country’s atmosphere… a government was formed that bravely came to grips with the country’s most difficult problems and focused its foreign policy on sanctions which have hurt the people’s lives,” the chairman of the Expediency Council said in an address to a cultural festival in Tehran on Friday.
On regional challenges, the former president said, “While the region is faced with bloodshed, terror and insecurity… Iran can be an anchor of stability in the region and help restore calm.”
