Iran's renowned female filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad received an honorary award at the 6th International Crime and Punishment Film Festival in Istanbul,  on Thursday, September 29.

The Festival Cinema Honorary Award was presented for her brilliant collection of films, ISNA reported.

The annual event which explores important societal themes from the perspectives of the cinema, art and science, presents two honorary awards every year, one to a scholar in social fields and another to a filmmaker. This year, the filmmaker award was given to Banietemad for her lifetime of efforts in making movies on social themes.

In her films, she aims to reflect the realities of Iranian people’s daily life experiences. One of the main components of Banietemad's films is the critical look and pathological approach to social issues.

She shows the pain of sufferers in her works in a bid to help raise awareness among the public and officials.

‘The Tales’, 'Gilaneh', ‘Under the Skin of the City’, 'The May Lady', 'The Blue-Veiled' and 'Nargess' are among the most important films she has made so far.

The festival in Turkey aims to improve social awareness by communicating the repercussion of the relationship between crime and justice in cinema, contribute to social change by increasing communication, solidarity and cooperation and popularize the need and sense of equality.
