Iran’s National Cinema School is willing to cooperate with the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Tehran, said its head Ruhollah Hosseini.

A meeting was held at UT last week aimed at initiating collaboration between the two sides, Mehr News Agency reported.

Active for nine months since inception in early 2015, Hosseini said the school is keen to link science with cinema.

Head of the Research Bureau of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Azam Raad said,” Films on social issues should be analyzed by experts in related fields because cinema usually reflects issues important to the society at large.”

The university’s Faculty of Social Sciences was established in 1958 under the auspices of the Institute for Social Research. As one of the oldest social science faculties in the region, its leading lights have trained many of the country’s top sociologists. Students have an active social and political life in the faculty through clubs and societies.

Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, Cinema Organization head Hojjatollah Ayyubi and acclaimed film director Majid Majidi are cofounders of the cinema school, which came on stream in May last year.

Hosseini presides over the school’s board of trustees.
