Iran will attend the 56th International Art Exhibition of Venice stronger than the previous editions with 30 artists displaying works in various fields of art.

Head of visual arts department at the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance Majid Molla-Norouzi said the department has started “selecting and collecting the works,” MNA reported.

Iran’s art has been presented in all accredited international art events and “the private sector is supporting the process.”

The official stressed the importance of biennials in introducing the art of different countries and said: “International media, museums, and galleries take part in such events. We want Iranian art to be showcased in this biennial to represent an almost complete array of contemporary art.” He also noted that the private sector will assist in the process.

“We will showcase works from several artists in various fields and with different perspectives and our criteria is innovation and novelty,” he added.

Molla-Norouzi said the artworks will include a wide range, from calligraphy and painting to sculpture and installation. Close to 2000 square meters is dedicated to Iran by the private sector in Venice, suitable to showcase works of 30 artists.

The 56th International Art Exhibition will run from May 9 to November 22. It is a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years (in odd years) in Venice, Italy.

Iran has previously attended the event in 2003, 2005, 2009, and 2011.
