Close to 80% of gasoline meets Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards, chief executive officer of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said Wednesday.
"Of the NIOPDC's total output at 112 million liters per day, almost 90 million liters is compliant with international standards," Alireza Sadeqabadi was quoted as saying by ILNA.
He said the quality fuel was not produced in Iran up until 2015. It was not until 2016 when refineries in Isfahan and Arak started producing 17 ml/d and 11 ml/d of this quality of fuels respectively.
When the Persian Gulf Star Refinery in Hormozgan Province went on stream in 2017, approximately 28 ml/d of fuel, with sulfur levels set by the European Union, was added to the total production capacity.
The bar set by the EU says sulfur level in the fuel should not exceed 50 parts-per-million.
