Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi left Tehran for Paris on Monday to deliver President Hassan Rouhani's message to his French counterpart, the ministry's spokesperson said.
"On this trip, Araqchi will deliver Hassan Rouhani's written message to France's President Emmanuel Macron," Abbas Mousavi wrote on his Twitter account.
France is leading a European initiative to deescalate Persian Gulf tensions fueled by rising friction between Iran and the United States over the 2015 nuclear deal.
Macron's top advisor, Emmanuel Bonne, had recently visited Tehran twice and the two presidents have had several phone conversations in the past month over the fate of the nuclear deal and regional developments.
