The western province of Lorestan ranks first in the number of outbound migrants in Iran, with as many as 12,000 people leaving the province every year.
“Lorestan accounts for 2.22% of the Iranian population. Its per capita income stands at 80 million rials ($683) compared with the average income of 130 million rials ($1,111) in Iran,” Ali Hadi Chegini, the head of Lorestan Plan and Budget Organization, was quoted as saying by Eqtesad Online.
Lorestan’s unemployment rate, the proportion of jobless population of ages 10 years and above, stood at 16.1% in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21), indicating a 1.26% increase compared with the same period of last year.
The Statistical Center of Iran put Lorestan’s Q1 labor force participation rate—the proportion of the population of ages 10 years and above that is economically active either employed or looking for job—at 36.7%, registering an uptick of 0.27% year-on-year.
