A delegation from Moscow headed by Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian president's special envoy on Syria, and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin met with Iranian Foreign Minister's Senior Aide for Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji in Tehran on Tuesday.
They discussed the latest developments in Syria, including the formation of a constitutional committee, a working group on the exchange of detainees, arrangements for the upcoming meeting of the Astana peace process due on Aug. 1-2 in the Kazakh capital and the next meeting of the leaders of three guarantor states of the process, namely Iran, Russia and Turkey, ISNA reported.
A civil war has been triggered by foreign powers against Syria since 2011, which has spilled beyond its borders. A series of initiatives have been pursued by the global community under the Astana peace process to end the crisis.
Khaji and Vershinin also talked about the latest developments in Yemen and the need to end the crisis, including through the implementation of the Stockholm agreement.
Yemen has also been stuck in a civil conflict since 2015. The warring parties met last December in the Swedish capital and agreed to a ceasefire and troop withdrawal deal.
