As per a mandate issued by Tehran’s mayor, part of the money collected from traffic fines is to be spent on the expansion of the capital’s public transportation system.
Tehran Mayor Pirouz Hanachi has authorized Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Company to spend a part of Tehran Municipality’s revenues from traffic ticket payments on subway development.
Hanachi has authorized Ali Emam, the head of the company, to use a part of TM revenues from traffic citations for expanding Tehran’s metro system.
According to ILNA, the money is to be spent on developing footbridges and walkways for easing access to subway stations throughout the capital. The move will help the company renovate facilities and accelerate repairs in the subway network.
Expansion of public transportation has been prioritized by TM since Hanachi took office in November 2018.
