Bus, metro and taxi fares in the capital have gone up by 20% after Tehran City Council approved the new rates in a meeting on Sunday.
Tehran Taxi Organization Chief Alireza Qannadan said the new fares go into effect from April 29, Tasnim News Agency reported.
"Taxi drivers in the capital will receive new rate stickers for displaying them on their windscreen," he said.
Qannadan said cab and bus fare charts installed in stations will also be updated.
Tehran Municipality annually sends a proposal for raising public transportation fares based on the inflation rate announced by the Central Bank of Iran.
The previous minimum taxi fare in Tehran was 15,000 rials (10 cents) and a single-trip metro ticket cost 10,000 rials (7 cents). Urban bus fares also ranged from 5,000 to 10,000 rials (3 to 7 cents).
