Traffic accidents are responsible for almost 30% of deaths among young people, the Ministry of Health announced.
Hamed Barakati, an authority with the ministry says among the factors claiming youth lives between 18-29 years old, car accidents top the list with 30% of recorded deaths.
The age group comprises around 20% of the total 82 million population in Iran, Mehr News Agency reported.
The other killers among youngsters are alcohol, suicide, heart disease, drug overdose -- responsible for less than 10% of the mortality rate.
The official did not provide exact numbers of the youth who die in road mishaps.
According to the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization, annually around 17,000 innocent lives are lost to road accidents across the country.
