Iran Traffic Police to Get Tough During Norouz Travel Season

Traffic Police will impound dilapidated cars during the Norouz holiday season (March 21-April 2).
Cars plying the roads and highways across the country and lacking the mandatory technical inspection tests will be stopped, Asb-e Bokhar reported.
General Ali Asghar Mehri, a senior Traffic Police officer says vehicles will be strictly monitored by his colleagues stationed on the highways and via traffic surveillance cameras.
"Vehicles breaching the rules will be impounded," Mehri said.
The move is in line with the road safety measures envisaged by the police to make road trips safer during the annual holidays.
Measures include deploying extra officers throughout the country and setting up rest areas, roadside health centers, shops plus auto service centers along with emergency response teams. 
Furthermore, all construction work on urban and intercity roadways will be banned during the two-week holiday.
Norouz, the Persian New Year is the main extended holiday season in Iran when many families hit the roads to meet friends and relatives.
