Sochi Summit on Syria Set for Feb. 14

The Russia-Turkey-Iran summit on Syrian peace will be held in Sochi, a Russian city.
“The trilateral summit … will take place in Sochi on Feb. 14,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in an interview with Hurriyet newspaper on Thursday, TASS reported.
According to NTV, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are expected to discuss the situation in the Syrian de-escalation zone Idlib and the withdrawal of US forces from Syria at the upcoming meeting.
The previous summit of the three presidents was held in September last year in Tehran.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that a low-level international meeting on Syria would be held in mid-February in the Kazakh capital Astana with the participation of delegations from the Syrian government, opposition, Russia, Turkey and Iran, and observers from the United Nations and Jordan.
The details of Astana meeting are being coordinated, he added.
The Astana process was launched by the trio in January 2017 to bring all warring parties in Syria to the negotiating table to complement the UN-sponsored peace talks in Geneva.
