A foreign ministry official says Tehran favors unity and stability in Yemen.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always wished well for Yemen and has supported unity and stability in the country,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said in response to Yemeni President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi’s recent critical remarks about Iran.
“The continuation of consultations and engagement by all parties and political and social groups in the political process and the smartness of the sensible Yemeni people will help restore security and stability in the country,” she said, IRNA reported.
The Islamic Republic’s foreign policy is based on principles of prudence and moderation, interaction with other countries, non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs, support for campaigns against violence, extremism, terrorism, and sectarianism, and support for legitimate popular demands made through peaceful means, she added.
The Yemeni president urged Iran on Saturday to be “reasonable” in its policy on Yemen, AFP reported.
“Iran should be reasonable and logical in dealing with the Yemeni people,” Hadi said.
He also called on Tehran to “deal with the Yemeni people as one entity, and not to deal with groups or sects.”
