Iran has a total of 217,000 kilometers of roads, for the maintenance of which 9 trillion rials ($600 million) are needed per year, the deputy head of Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization of Iran said.
“This is while we receive only half of this sum annually. The scarcity of financial resources is the main hurdle we face in the organization [affiliated to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development],” Mohammad Teymouri was also quoted by as saying by Mrud.ir.
