The foreign ministry condemned an Israeli strike in Syria that killed a number of senior members of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.
In a statement on Monday, the foreign ministry said, "This incident once again proved that Syria is a battlefield against the Zionist regime (of Israel) and Hezbollah remains committed and steadfast in confronting occupation and interference of foreigners in the internal affairs of other regional nations," IRNA reported.
A commander from Lebanon's Hezbollah and the son of the group's late military leader Imad Moughniyah were killed in the Israeli helicopter strike targeting their convoy in the province of Quneitra, near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
In total six Hezbollah members were killed, a statement from the group said, Reuters reported on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Tabnak news site said, "Several members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps had also been killed in the attack", without giving further details.
Nasim news agency reported that General Mohammad Ali Allahdadi was among IRGC members who lost their lives in the incident.
Speaking about the incident, Hossein Sheikholeslam, advisor to Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on international affairs, said, "The attack was probably taken place with intelligence provided by terrorists in Syria to Israel."
He said, "By carrying out this strike Israel has invited Hezbollah fighters to Golan front", adding that the attack could prompt a reprisal by Hezbollah "against Israeli (interests) outside borders of Lebanon and the occupied Palestine," Fars news agency reported.
"This means the expansion of the resistance front," Sheikholeslam noted.
