The navy's 33rd fleet set sail on Sunday on a mission which will take naval forces as far as the South China Sea to protect cargo ships and oil tankers in international waters.
The naval fleet consists of a destroyer, a logistic-combat warship as well as a submarine.
Their deployment comes on the heels of the homecoming of another naval fleet which carried out an 80-day mission on the open seas.
The 33rd fleet is scheduled to sail across the northern parts of the Indian Ocean, the southern waters of India and Sri Lanka, the Strait of Malacca and the South China Sea, Tasnim news agency reported.
In a ceremony on Sunday, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the 33rd fleet is expected to provide security for both Iranian and foreign vessels in the shipping lines of the high seas.
He added that navy cadets will also receive necessary training on the voyage.
