The head of Tehran Criminal Courts said on Sunday the ruling for former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's top aide has been "mostly upheld" by the Supreme Court.
Judge Mohsen Eftekhari, who was talking about the convictions against former vice president Mohammad Reza Rahimi, said, "After the Supreme Court examined the case and mostly upheld the ruling of the court of first instance, the case has been referred to Tehran Criminal Courts (to be implemented)," IRNA reported.
Rahimi has been the target of a lengthy judicial investigation into his alleged role in several high-profile bribery and embezzlement cases. He was indicted in March last year and was later sentenced to imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine.
The former official denied all the accusations and appealed against the convictions. Then his case was referred to a special court for revision.
Eftekhari did not elaborate on the details of the ruling and said, "The judiciary spokesperson will provide details on the case in his next press conference if he deems necessary."
Last year in September, First Deputy Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei told reporters he "cannot reveal the details because the ruling is not final, but it includes a term of imprisonment and a fine.
