An exhibition of photography accompanied with live music performance opened on Friday at Saye Art Gallery in Tehran where artists seek to visualize their take on a poem by contemporary poet Forough Farrokhzad.
The exhibit “Conquer the Garden” is named after a modern poem by Farrokhzad. It features photos by photographer Mehdi Shadizadeh, while piano player Siavash Damirian performs musical scores composed by Mahsa Siavashi.
The minimalist scores written by Siavashi for the exhibition convey the theme of photos and Farrokhzad’s poem, which starts by a verse about a crow watching the poet and her companion.
“I used the crow in the poem as an expressive symbol of Forough’s poetry and the poet herself,” the 33-year-old visual artist and documentary maker Shadizadeh told Financial Tribune.
On display are photos of crows sitting on power lines while musical piano pieces are being performed.
Forough Farrokhzad (1935-1967) was an influential poet and film director mostly known for her feminist approach to art and literature.
Shadizadeh has held solo and group exhibitions in Iran, Greece, Turkey, Albania and Italy.
The event will run until August 29. The venue is located at No. 21, Alley 13, Sanaei St., Karimkhan Ave.
