A pulp and paper processing factory in Aliabad-e Katul in the northeastern province of Golestan was launched on Thursday. Built on an investment of 300 billion rials ($7.14 million), the new facility has the capacity to produce 60 tons of pulp on a daily basis and would help create 60 direct and 2,500 indirect jobs, the managing director of the Directorate of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare of Golestan Province said. “The raw material of the pulp produced in this factory is agricultural residues [wastes],” IRNA also quoted Saeed Mazandarani as saying. A total of 770,000 tons of paper, including newsprint, book paper, tissues, packaging paper and cardboard, were produced in Iran in the last fiscal year (March 2017-18), registering a 32% rise compared with the year before.
