Customs officials at Khorasan Razavi Province’s Sarakhs, the northeastern city along the Iran-Turkmenistan border, have seized 2,990 kilograms of copper ingots concealed in two trucks carrying a cargo of sheepskin. The use of advanced X-ray truck installed in the customs of Sarakhs in May helped detect the presence of smuggled copper ingots, ILNA reported on Saturday. The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration ranks first in combating narcotics and second in fighting smuggling, according to World Customs Organization. WCO’s Regional Intelligence Liaison Office has attributed Iran’s top ranking to the successful implementation of electronic customs systems.
