Cheshmeh Publishing Company has released a Persian translation of “Shantytown” written by Argentine writer and translator, and an exponent of Argentine contemporary literature César Aira.
According to the Persian website of Mehr News Agency Vandad Jalili has rendered the title into Persian.
With the original title “La Villa”, the novel gives meaning to the residents of Buenos Aires slums that often go unseen.
In 155 pages, Shantytown recounts a story set in a slum, or “villa miseria,” as it is known in Buenos Aires.
The plot revolves around Maxi, a middle-class, directionless son of a young man who helps the trash-pickers of Buenos Aires’s shantytown. Maxi attracts the attention of a corrupt, trigger-happy policeman who will use anyone - including two innocent teenage girls - to break a drug ring that he believes is operating within the slum, Amazon.com wrote.
