As part of its commitment to improve transparency about its performance, Tehran Municipality unveiled a first-of-its-kind website, Shafaf.tehran.ir, on Tuesday. The website offers viewers a full overview of its major contracts, including those worth over 10 billion rials ($166,000) and details of the capital city’s current fiscal spending package. This may well be one of Tehran Mayor Mohammad Ali Najafi’s biggest legacies, despite his short-lived tenure as the mayor of Tehran. On Tuesday, Tehran City Council accepted Najafi’s resignation citing “health issues” and appointed Samiollah Makarem as caretaker. The outgoing MIT-educated mayor was overwhelmingly elected as Tehran mayor in August and officially took office in September.
