A parliamentarian has lamented that some groups are seeking to exclude their rivals from contesting the next parliamentary election in 2016. Referring to Guardian Council spokesperson Nejatollah Ebrahimian’s recent remarks that “political groups should not use the Guardian Council to frighten each other”, MP Kamaleddin Pirmoazzen told IRNA on Monday, “Unfortunately, some people want to use the council to eliminate their rivals and serve their factional interests, but the council is like a kind father toward the Islamic Ummah and no one is able to take advantage of it to achieve their objectives.” The council, among other tasks, is charged with supervising elections and approving the qualifications of the people who stand as candidates in elections.
