Iran will host the third Beach Volleyball World Tour at Kish Island in the Persian Gulf, February 20-24.
A total of 67 volleyball clubs from 30 nations have so far registered for the event, IRNA reported.
Regarding the team count for each country, Iran and Austria are first with six teams each. Ukraine and the US are second with five teams each. And Switzerland, Italy and Germany are third with four teams each.
Canada, France, Latvia, and Turkey will attend the games with two teams each. Argentina, Belarus, Croatia, Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Indonesia, Norway, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, South Africa and Venezuela are sending one team.
Volleyball World Tour is a cornerstone of the Iran Volleyball Federation’s plans to develop beach volleyball at the heart of the Persian Gulf and beyond.
Kish Island provides an ideal setting for beach volleyball and the federation has invested in its infrastructure. There is a new emphasis on providing training for players and coaches with the introduction of a beach volleyball league since last year.
In the second edition of the tournament, Liamin/Krasilnikov team from Russia defeated Kantor/Losiak from Poland in the finals to conquer the first place. Stoyanovskiy/Yarzutkin team also from Russia finished third. A beach volleyball team comprises of only two players.
Kish Marine Recreational and Sports Complex in the island hosted the previous edition of the tour. The venue for this year’s event on the island is yet to be announced.
