Shokouh and Noqteh galleries in Tehran have organized an exhibition-cum-sale of paintings and calligraphic works by renowned Iranian artists.

Named the ‘Glory of Art,’ the exhibit will open Friday at Shokouh Art Gallery and run through January 24, Honaronline reported.

Over 30 paintings and calligraphy paintings by 33 celebrated artists will go on display. “We wanted to hold the exhibition at the inauguration ceremony of Noqteh Gallery,” said Vahid Moini, director of the soon-to-be-opened gallery and curator of the upcoming art sale. “But since the gallery is not ready to hold the exhibit, we decided to run it at Shokouh.”

“Some of the works have been collected by Shokouh Gallery. We received the works from collectors and did our best to offer them at prices lower than what is customary in the art market,” Moini added.

The present collection contains works by artists whose names are familiar at auctions, namely Jafar Rouhbakhsh (1938-1996), painter and miniaturist Hossein Behzad (1894-1968); calligrapher Reza Mafi (1943-1981), avant-garde painter, poet and sculptor Jazeh Tabatabai (1931-2008), calligrapher and calligraphic painter Ali Shirazi, 37, and contemporary realist painter Abbas Katouzian (1923-2008).

Most of the works are paintings. “The oldest work is by painter Ali Mohammad Heydarian (1896-1990) who was a talented student of legendary painter Kamal-ol-Molk (1847-1940),” Moini said. Heydarian was among Kamal-ol Molk’s first pupils. He became a master painter who trained notable artists such as graphic designer Morteza Momayez (1935-2005), illustrator, author and painter Parviz Kalantari (1931-2016) and mosaic artist Monir Farmanfarmaian, 94.

Painter Abdol-Hamid Pazouki, 63, painter and sculptor Ali-Akbar Sanati (1916-2006), modernist painter Farideh Lashai (1944-2013), painter Gizella Varga Sinai, 74, painter, graphic designer and calligrapher Mohammad Ehsai, 79, and calligraphic painter Mahmoud Zenderoudi, 75, are the other artists whose works will be on sale.
